Description
Here is a fine Japanese mixed metal round covered brass box.The covered box is signed on the center of base, “Kyoto Kuroda Zo,” meaning made by Kuroda in Kyoto, [Japan].
The highlight of the work is definitely the finely incised flowering wisteria blossoms and leaves.
The design is very artistically and tastefully rendered.
The sides of the box is decorated with cherry (sakura) blossoms and several single petals depicting the transitory aspect of life.
The round covered box is in remarkably excellent condition considering its age without any major faults such as cracks, losses or restoration.
The only condition issues are a couple of oxidation spots in the interior, but they are minor in nature.
Please refer to the image provided.
I originally purchased this round covered box decades ago as part of my efforts to form a mixed metal collection, but the costs to find similar examples was far too cost prohibitive.
Overall, a finely executed covered box with only the exterior surfaces and edges slightly rubbed.
For those advanced collectors who wish to find pieces with 100% of the original finish and rim patina intact, you might want to refrain from purchasing. A quick Google search of this artist will show that this artist workshop is highly respected and sought after.
The height of the round covered box is slightly under 1.0 inch
The diameter of the round box is approximately 3.0 inches
Due to the fragile nature of mixed metal works, this piece will be double boxed and packed with tremendous care.
