(Imperial German medals book Orden)~ "Orden". 1920 color cigarette card reference on Imperial German orders and decorations. Includes medieval awards through the various Germanic States and Imperial Germany through the Republic. Complete with 287 color cards. (Der Bunte Book)~ Cologne: Verlag Haus Neuerburg, 1933. Paperback. Very Good -. [28] p. with 247 cards; 31 cm. Maroon stiffened card covers with gilt cover title and color illustration on front cover. No publication information, but most sources attribute this uniform card book to Haus Neuerburg in Köln in 1933. The 252 mounted color cards, often called cigarette cards, portray uniforms from the various German-speaking parts of Europe. Arranged in three sections: I. 1800-1810 Deutschland in seiner tiefsten Erniedrigung -- II. 1808-1842 Die Zeit der Befreiung -- III. Die Zeit des Aufstiegs. In Very Good- Condition. (Waldorf-Astoria Uniformen)~ Original era production. A very nice example, with all 312 full color uniform cards present for duty. Four brightly colored cards on almost all pages, except those providing a background intro to the time period. There is a total of 300 cards, with 30 illustrating each of the periods. The cards, each 8 by 7 cm, depict various aspects of life during the time period, with some emphasis on the economic life then prevalent, as well as other activities, whether sporting, religious, artistic. Thus for the first period are there illustrations of a goldsmith shop, a stone mason, peasant hayers, itinerant volk, etc. Human activity animates every card, regardless -- there are no cards simply of buildings or artwork produced during the particular period. The imagery may prettify somewhat, and one could find the detailing on the fussy side, but never does the imagery lack for life, and with its crisp, informative captions, it is a very efficient and effective introductory survey to cultural history. Wraps of a mid to heavy weight card. Light wear to the wraps. Generally clean, tight, bright with rare outer brown dust cover. ITEM ID4
