    Description

    This is a Japanese antique specialty box once used to house a shamisen (Japanese 3 string instrument).  It has been modified to have a lidded top with a finger nail insert (see picture 6) to aid in opening the lid.  It has a deep interior and a flat lower drawer for interesting storage areas.  Four small feet raise it slightly at its base (see picture 8).
    Having been used lovingly for nearly a century, along with a warm aged patina this antique lidded box remains in

    It measures 9 3/4" wide by 10 1/4" deep by 14 1/4" tall (24.5 x 26 x 36 cm).  A great piece of Japanese history with a wonderful warm aged patina.   It was made in the tradition of old Japanese craftsmanship with wooden pin construction (see picture 10).
